T2Rollercoaster |
|
This map is intended to be an exact clone of Rollercoaster from Tribes. It includes custom base shapes built to the exact scale of the originals from Tribes.
It also includes authentic terrain from the original. The terrain is exact in almost every way as it was ripped from the Tribes terrain itself.
All the great ski routes of Rollercoaster are preserved in T2Rollercoaster. Even the locations of the bases and objects are as close to the originals as possible.
From start to finish it took me about two weeks to create the entire mission and all its shapes.
Here I present side-by-side pictures of Rollercoaster vs. T2Rollercoaster.
I was intending to recreate all the good maps from Tribes (Broadside/Blastside, IceRidge, RainDance, etc),
but it seems that there are a lot of people out there with the same idea.
I am hoping that this faithful reproduction of Rollercoaster, with its exact terrain and shapes, will be set apart from the crowd.
Enjoy the map and feel free to drop me a line with any thoughts or comments to wonderball@aylamation.com.

Team 2 Base |
|
|
This is the base of team 2 (the South base). Notice how the terrain is almost identical between the two pictures.
In testing the map, I loaded Tribes Rollercoaster and placed a waypoint on the team 2 flag (the South base), and stood on the team 1 flag.
The waypoint was slightly west of south with a range of 723km. In T2Rollercoaster when standing on the team 1 flag,
the waypoint to the enemy flag was slightly west of south with a range of 722.2km.
I opted to use the same vehicle station covering on both bases (the cylinder) rather than have
the cylinder on the North base and the bunker on the South. That way both teams have some cover when buying vehicles rather
than team 2 having their back exposed in the direction of the enemy base.

Team 2 Flag Stand |
|
|
This is the flag stand of team 2 (the South base). Again the terrain is looking almost identical.
My favorite spot to snipe from is just over the second ridge in the hill in the middle of the picture. It is also a prime location
to sneek around and take out the rear solar panel.
One other thing to note is the attention to detail of the flag stand. There is a slight indentation
in the square around the flag where the texture changes, also the light above is slightly raised into the ceiling. I tried to
capture all of these little nuances when creating the shapes in Worldcraft.
It is also worth mentioning that this flag stand is the first thing I ever created in Worldcraft.
From start to finish this mission and all its shapes took me two weeks to create.

Base Interior |
|
|
This is the interior of the base showing the inventory stations. One thing
to notice here is that the ceiling actually curves upwards at all corners and along the wall. With the
texture in the T2Rollercoaster version it is hard to notice, but it is there. The base and all its rooms
are exactly the same size between the two versions. I also added red emergency lighting for when the power
goes down.

Team 1 Base |
|
|
This is the base for team 1 (the North base). This is one of my favorite comparison pictures
(which is why it is part of the loading screen for the mission). The terrain just looks so perfect in this picture.
I also like the look of the vehicle station in the cylinder. It really looks cool when the vehicle station is activated and
the arms slide around the perimeter of the cylinder. Also vehicles take off facing the enemy base.

Team 1 Flag Stand |
|
|
This is the flag stand for team 1 (the North base). The mountains behind the base are great
for skiing. With the enhanced skiing ability of Tribes 2, it is possible to get to the South base from the North base in one ski jump
down the first hill (with an energy pack, you can land on the flag!)
